Many of you have asked how you can support the library during this difficult time. If you are so inclined, you may want to support this GoFund Me organized by the Friends of the Library to support our redecorating plans. We’re hoping to glam up the children’s and teen areas with book browsers and comfy chairs.
Is the library open?
Yes and no. We are open in our meeting room for pickup and a browsing cart only for limited hours.
What are the pickup hours?
How do I request items?
Call the library at 507-744-3977 or request through our online catalog. Please limit phone requests to 4 items at a time. Expect a turnaround time of 24 hours. We will notify you when your materials are ready for pickup
Can I browse for books?
No. We cannot allow anyone into the temporary library stacks for safety reasons.
What should I do with my items to return?
There will be a temporary return cart in the library entryway starting Monday, February 5th.
Will I get late fees?
No. We are completely fine free.
I have requested books that were sent to the Northfield Public Library . What should I do?
Items that have already been sent to Northfield must be picked up there. Requests placed from Monday, February 5th on will be sent to Lonsdale Public Library.
Can I still check out books from Northfield?
You can use your Lonsdale Public Library card at any of the libraries in the SELCO region at any time. That includes Northfield Public Library.
Can I use a computer? Print? Fax?
No. We are not able to offer any computer, printing or fax services at this time.
What about storytime and other kids’ programs?
Sadly, all programs are cancelled until further notice.
What about the playroom?
Unfortunately, the playroom also suffered water damage and is closed until further notice.
Thank you to everyone who has been so understanding and supportive during this difficult time. The library will be reopening on a very limited basis on Monday, February 5th.
How will it work?
We will have a pickup service, where you can order up to 4 items per card by calling the library, or order through the online catalog. We anticipate a 24-hour response time. You can then pick your items up in the library’s meeting room during the following limited hours. Please wait until notified that your items are ready before pickup. (We will do our best to locate requested materials, but cannot guarantee results.)
There will also be a small number of items on a browsing cart available to check out. We will not be able to fill immediate in-person requests, nor will patrons be able to browse in the temporary stacks.
A temporary return bin will be placed in the entryway on Monday as well.
We hope to increase service levels as we see how this temporary service is working. The timeline for moving back into the library space is still unknown, but will probably not be before mid-March at the earliest. We will keep you informed as we know more. Thank you for your patience.
