READING BY DESIGN SUMMER READING PROGRAM JUNE 9 – JULY 22
All ages (0-18) can register at the library for our summer reading program. For every 15 minutes that you read or are read to, mark your reading log. For every 10 circles, get a prize! (Special teen prizes available.) All kids and teens who finish all five prize levels will be entered into a drawing for a $25 Barnes & Noble gift card. All book logs must be returned by 2:00 pm on July 22nd in order to enter drawing.
Other upcoming events:
Craft sessions every Wednesday at 2:00
Our weekly craft sessions are a chance to create several projects that kids can take home. All events and supplies are free. Projects designed for ages 5-10, but everyone is welcome.
Wednesday, June 14, 1:00-2:00: Domáci Czech Dancers
We are delighted to welcome back the Domáci Czech Folk Dancers, a local group of young people who interpret traditional Czech dances, complete with authentic music and costumes. Kids who attend may even get a chance to learn a dance of their own! All ages are welcome, even grown-ups.
A perennial favorite, local reptile expert Jim Gerholdt, will be back to visit with some of his friends. And his friends are snakes, lizards and turtles! Kids will learn about these fascinating creatures, and maybe even get to pet a boa constrictor! All ages are welcome.
Friday, July 7: 1:00-1:45: Mad Science MN
Mad Science MN presents Phantastic Physics. Have fun with physics as we create lightning indoors! See electricity at work as we float pie tins and make a pickle light bulb! Discover the power of a Tesla coil as we use it to ignite a cannon. Then, we send 200,000 volts of electricity through one lucky volunteer for a truly hair-raising experience! Content is designed for grade school ages, but everyone is welcome. Special thanks to the Lonsdale American Legion Auxiliary, whose generous donation made this program possible!
We will have our very own You Can Build It Fair, featuring demonstrations and interactive activities on topics like robotics, origami, building, and a contest to build the tallest tower with provided materials. Projects designed for ages 8-14, but all ages are welcome.
